About the artist

Colin at work in the studioI started my career in Textile and Textile Engineering, studying on sandwich courses, at Manchester University.
Later I worked in the advertising departments of Odhams Press and The Manchester Guardian, handling advertising in textiles, civil engineering computers etc. for The Guardian.

I eventually moved to the textile division of a large American paper making machinery manufacturer and in time became Paper Making Technologist and Representative working in the south of England, Europe and Africa.
Later I set up my own agency.

At the age of fifty eight (58) I retired, due to ill health, and after certain medical operations attended colleges in Manchester and Salford studying Design and Ceramics. I also attended courses at The College of Art, Cordoba, Spain.

I now spend my time making ceramics for the home and garden. I like to specialise in Smoke Firing. I also design and make mosaics.

I also organise outside workshops, in ceramics and mosaics, which are attended by learning disabled adults. I would like to help more people like this in the future.
